Hiking trail “Izvor voda Saborsko”

The Izvor-Voda Trail is an excellent choice for all those eager to experience pristine nature of the wider Plitvice Lakes area

At the same time, it is well-marked and covered with GPS track, providing a good wilderness-feeling safety balance. There’s also a booklet for gamified self-guided tour of the trail. It’s called Saborka and from mid-Aug 2024 it is available free of charge at the pick-up point near the start of the trail in Saborsko (at the moment, available in tourist offices in Saborsko, Rakovica, and Grabovac, in Croatian and English). With the help of Saborka, you can experience the Izvor-Voda Trail through two thematic sections. The first one involves a light ascent from Saborsko to the peak of Alan (2 km one way) and it is called “The Source of Solace”.

This walk is particularly suitable for those with less time or fitness and for pilgrims (it also serves as a Way of the Cross with quite an interesting story). The second thematic section is called the “The Source of Life” and encompasses the entire (circular) trail (12-13 km).

Technically it isn’t demanding, but requires moderate stamina, and appropriate clothing and footwear. Previous experience in recreational outdoor activities is also advisable. After heavy rains or snowmelt, part of this section along the beautiful Jesenica (Zelenka) stream may be flooded, so in such cases it is advisable to consult before the trip (Plitvičke Doline Tourist Board: +385 47 784 450, or +385 99 2451 251).
