Trail “Izvor Voda” in Saborsko

The Izvor Voda trail is an excellent hiking destination for outdoor enthusiasts who wish to explore the magical wilderness surrounding the Plitvice Lakes while enjoying a safe and well-marked route.

The trail is clearly marked, covered by a GPS track, and supported by Saborka — an engaging gamified guide for independent exploration. Since mid-August 2024, Saborka has been freely available at the trailhead in Saborsko (currently also available at tourist offices in Saborsko, Rakovica, and Grabovac). With Saborka, you can experience the Izvor Voda trail through two themed sections.

The first one covers a gentle ascent from Saborsko to the Alan peak (2 km one way) and is called “The Source of Comfort.”

This walk is especially suitable for those with limited time or fitness, as well as for pilgrims. In fact, this part of the trail also serves as a Way of the Cross with quite an interesting story.

The second themed section, “The Source of Life,” covers the entire circular route (12–13 km).
It is technically easy but moderately demanding physically, so appropriate clothing and footwear are required. Prior experience in recreational hiking is recommended. After heavy rain or snowmelt, parts of the trail along the beautiful Jesenica (also known as Zelenka) stream may be flooded, so it is advised to check conditions before setting out (Plitvice Valley Tourist Board: +385 47 784 450 or +385 99 2451 251).
